The S.T.U.P.I.D. Examination

The Statewide Test for Understanding and Patriotic Indoctrination — the S.T.U.P.I.D. Examination — is SOONER's flagship 8th-grade competency assessment. It is administered annually to students enrolled in SOONER-affiliated schools, homeschool cooperatives, and independent educational programs across Oklahoma.

The examination measures student mastery of the five subject areas established in the SOONER Curriculum Framework: language arts, mathematics, science, civics, and moral formation. It is offered in a single sitting each spring at approved administration sites.

Program Facts

Grade level: 8th grade (age 13–14 at time of administration)
Format: Paper-and-pencil, proctored. Approximately four hours with two supervised breaks.
Subject areas: Language arts, mathematics, science, civics & American history, moral formation
Administration: Annual, spring semester (2026–27 administration: April 17, 2027)
Registration fee: $45 per student. Fee waivers available for students of affiliated cooperatives.
Score reporting: Individual student reports issued to parents within eight weeks. Cohort reports issued to affiliated schools and cooperatives.
Recognition: Accepted for credit by a growing number of Oklahoma homeschool cooperatives and affiliated private academies. See our office for the current list.

Purpose

A competency examination is only as valuable as the standards it measures. National assessments such as the National Assessment of Educational Progress are, by design, aligned with a national curriculum. The S.T.U.P.I.D. Examination is aligned with the SOONER Curriculum Framework and measures what Oklahoma parents, teachers, and communities have determined their 8th-grade students should know.

The examination is not, and is not intended to be, a substitute for state-required assessments for students enrolled in Oklahoma public schools. It is offered as a complementary measure for those schools, and as a primary measure for cooperatives and independent educators who are not subject to state assessment requirements.

The following items are drawn from the 2025 field-test edition and are illustrative of the format and expectations of the examination. Actual items are not published in advance of administration.

Section II · Mathematics

A rancher runs 240 head of cattle on 640 acres. If the pasture will support one animal unit per 2.5 acres before requiring supplemental feed, is the herd size sustainable? Show your work.
A family earns a gross monthly income of $4,800. They tithe ten percent, set aside twelve percent for savings, and pay $1,150 in rent. What percentage of the remaining income is available for all other household expenses?
A field of winter wheat yields 42 bushels per acre and is priced at $6.80 per bushel at the elevator. Freight to the elevator costs $0.35 per bushel. Compute the net revenue per acre.

Section IV · Civics & American History

Recite the Preamble to the Constitution of the United States. (Oral administration option available.)
Identify, in order, the four Gospels of the New Testament.
Explain, in a paragraph of no more than 150 words, why the framers of the American republic considered the separation of powers essential to the preservation of liberty.
Name one good thing about the United States. (Free response; a single answer is required. Students are given one attempt.)

Section V · Moral Formation

Enumerate the Ten Commandments and explain, briefly, the reasoning of any three.
A neighbor's fence has fallen into your pasture during a storm. Two of your cattle are now on the neighbor's land. Describe the responsibilities of each party and the proper sequence of steps toward a resolution.

Score Reporting

Individual student score reports are issued to parents within eight weeks of administration and include a subject-area breakdown, a narrative summary, and a composite indicator known as the Certificate of Formation. The Certificate of Formation is not a numerical score but a written attestation that the student has, in the judgment of the examiners, demonstrated the practical, civic, and moral competencies described in the SOONER framework.

Cohort reports are issued to affiliated schools and cooperatives and summarize aggregate performance without identifying individual students.

Registration

Registration for the 2026–27 administration opens August 1, 2026, and closes February 15, 2027. Registration is handled through the student's affiliated school or cooperative; independent registrations from homeschool families are also accepted.

Interactive Examination

The CPARM Interactive Examination is a fully scored, question-by-question version of the historic CPARM working exam, presented here as an unofficial educational artifact. It covers all subject areas assessed by the S.T.U.P.I.D. Examination — language arts, mathematics, science, civics, and moral formation — and scores responses in real time using the CPARM Institute's Derangement Quotient (DQ) scale.

The interactive examination carries no formal standing under current SOONER standards and confers no credential. The Committee nonetheless regards it as the most instructive single artifact available for understanding what the S.T.U.P.I.D. Examination is designed to measure and why.

Historic Working Documents

The documents below are the CPARM Examination and its corresponding answer key in the form in which they were in active use prior to the formal adoption of the SOONER Curriculum Framework. They are made available here as an unofficial historic record only. They do not reflect current SOONER standards, examination format, or scoring protocols, and they carry no formal standing with respect to the S.T.U.P.I.D. Examination or any SOONER credential.

The Committee regards them as a useful artifact of the organization's development and has no objection to their study by educators, prospective affiliates, or interested members of the public. They are provided as-is, without warranty, representation, or endorsement of any individual answer therein.
